Prospect of a fast return leg with a South Westerly blowing 5 – 6. Good start and once overtaken by Pyxis
hooked onto their stern wave for a good tow across Weymouth Bay. Kept in close at St Albans for the back
eddy and put the heavy weight spinnaker up and even managed a gybe at Anvil Point without damaging
any thing or body. Angle not great for North Head so had to drop the kite to make the mark then beam
reached to Hurst. Tide with through Hurst and then someone decided that putting the kite up again would
be a good idea. One crash jibe, ripped spinnaker, lost sheet and sore head later, re-assessment of decision
undertaken. Normal scream into the finish in the dark through the main channel dodging shipping and just
piped by Blue Movies for line honours but this time first on handicap, not bad for 5th race in new boat.
Then the fun really began as we had to head back to Cowes in a force 6 with the motor cutting out and the
tiller becoming disconnected, still it did give us a chance to practice with the emergency rudder and a
reminder to check up on our life insurance policies.
