Prospect of a long beat in strong winds so went with the No. 3 off the start line and headed for the shore to get out of the tide. Good leg up to St Albans but normal situation with the wind dying on the corner. Picked up the back eddy about three quarters of the way to Anvil Point and when we came out into Poole Bay the tide was with and changed up to he No.1 as the wind was lighter. Looking at the angles North Head seemed the better option with only a short tack back to get into Hurst Narrows for the roller coaster ride down the Solent. Wind did not drop off in the Solent as it usually does and had to put a reef in as we were seeing 25 knots apparent, could really have done with changing down to the No. 3 but stuck at it to the finish.
