Force 4-5 SW forecast for the race so started with the number 3 once we had got to the right start line at Royal Thames. Good beat down the Solent to Hurst and looking at the angles for Poole Bar No. 1 decided to follow the majority of the fleet through the North Channel. Slightly sheets eased once on course for Poole but the wind was building so put in the first reef. With gusts up to 27knts over the deck we put the second reef in but still lost out to the heavier boats who could hold there sail area better. Once round Poole Bar No. 1 it was a bit easier with a down wind leg all the way to the finish at Dunfold but definitely not a kite leg. Headed back to HYS after the finish but not expecting anything other than a low result as the conditions did not favour a light displacement boat.
