Early start to catch the tide down the Solent and pretty crowed at the pin end, a close call with Xtract as they
squeezed in but no harm done. With the stronger tide on the Island shore we tacked up the main channel
following Stan and Duff Lite. A few of the following boats went over to the mainland but it did not pay. Not that far
behind the leaders at Hurst but Expressly Forbidden caught up as we tacked up the shingles bank to Bridge. Once
out in Poole Bay it was long tacks and keeping a careful watch on the opposition. Put the first reef in as the breeze
picked up around mid day and shook it out a bit later when the wind dropped off a bit. Easy passage through the
overfalls off St Albans with no appreciable rough water. Then virtually a single tack across Weymouth Bay to the
finish with just one short tack and a bit of a detour around the liner Queen Elisabeth. Slightly confusing finish as
the diagram supplied did not match the buoy layout but got a time non the less. 5th overall which was a good
result and an interesting motor back the next day with most of the route in thick fog.
