Forecast did not look too promising with the possibility of the wind going round to the North East and
contingency plans for a bail out to the Needles if necessary. As it turned out there was not that much wind
at the start and picking the right end of the line really helped. Lead the "fleet" out of the Grande Rade but
eventually caught by both Xara and Raffles. Overall plan was to stay on single tack with sheets eased and
make enough Easting to ensure we minimised the effect of the North Easterly if it came in. Had to change
down to the Number 3 when the wind picked up and numerous reefs in and out as it gusted up to 24 knots
apparent under the clouds. Made Bembridge as planned but probably put too much Easting in so lost out to
Raffles. 90% spinnaker up once through the forts and a good run to the finish. Reasonably early finish so in
good time for an excellent curry at the Cowes Tandoori.
