Wind was predicted to turn round from NW to SE over Friday / Saturday but started out with a decent
Westerly off the start so kites down the Solent and hardened up for the leg to Bembridge from the Forts.
Some of the fleet decided to head into the back of the island to dodge the tide but we headed South on the
rhumb line. Some tricky conditions over night with the wind softening but only about 10 minutes of
completely no wind so kept the boat moving with various sail configurations as the wind moved round.
Some quite good company as we headed South with a number of bigger boats in view and even managed to
overtake some in the lighter stuff. Picked up the stronger tide off Cherbourg and had to make a careful
approach to maximise the speed / approach angle but homed in pretty well on the finish. A number of boats
were coming in from the East under spinnaker and pleased to see both Raffles and Xara within striking
distance. Just pipped on the line by Raffles but an excellent victory overall although it did mean we enabled
Xara to win the championship overall. Quick dash to the drinks party to collect our bottle prize and a meal
out in Cherbourg.
