Day started as it would continue when we went aground coming out of the Hamble. Extricated ourselves from the
mud and headed over to the JOG start line. During the pre-start we got pinned in shore by a motoring Class 3 boat
who wouldn't let us tack round and we ended up aground off Egypt point. Took about ten minutes to get
ourselves off which meant we started the race 6 minutes late and with only the main up as I was down below
dismantling the furniture to check the keel bolts. No obvious issues so we eventually got racing again but having
given the fleet a decent head start. Passed a couple of the back markers on the way to the forts and a nice sheets
eased run to the Nab Tower. Short leg across to Winner on which we were passed by Dawn Trader with her 3
headsails. Once round Winner it was a fairly tight kite run all the way to the finish. Ok when the apparent was
under 10 knts but in the gusts the wind went forward causing a few issues and at one point it looked like we
wouldn't make Snowden. However the wind eased a bit and we made it to the finish which was when the fun
started. The kite had been difficult to get right up and this should have been a red flag as it would not come down
and took some time to spot that the halyard had come out of a turning block and was jammed down the side. So
once this was cleared and we could get the kite down we were half way to Lymington and minus a sheet. Also a
nice slog against the tide to get back to the Hamble. Not surprisingly our result was very poor although if we had
started on time I think we may have been about mid fleet.
